The wife of a current AEW star has opened up about forging her own path in a different promotion away from her husband.

Keith Lee and Mia Yim were released from WWE on November 4, 2021 after Lee was pushed as ‘Bearcat’ and Yim had been a part of the RETRIBUTION stable as Reckoning. She was moved back to Raw as part of the 2021 draft, but never reappeared on television before being released.

Keith Lee made his surprise debut in AEW on the February 9, 2022 episode of AEW Dynamite defeating Isiah Kassidy in a one-sided match. More recently he has been part of the ‘Swerve in Their Glory’ tag team with former NXT Superstar, Swerve Strickland.

Mia Yim however, had not been seen on television since her WWE departure, until her debut at IMPACT Under Siege in May 2022.

Speaking to Metro, Mia Yim talked about how she is often asked why she didn’t join Keith Lee in AEW.

“Ever since we started dating, it was like, ‘I never wanted to take his moves,’ we never wanted to be a tag team, we wanted to be our own separate brands. Sometimes we’ll do mixed tags or whatever and do things together, but we didn’t wanna be known just for that. We established very early on that we were own brand, we didn’t have to always stay together.

I always get asked, ‘Why didn’t you go with Keith?’ It’s like, because I’m my own person and I wanna do what I wanna do, you know? [laughs] So, as long as we support each other with whatever it is, we don’t always have to be together!” she explained. “Nothing bad to say about AEW but I’m just like, ‘Babe, that is your realm, go and kill it over there. That is your home.’ He was super supportive of me going back to IMPACT.”

Mia Yim recently spoke about her struggles with anxiety on the road to her then-upcoming debut at IMPACT Under Siege, with Inside The Ropes’ Liam Alexander-Stewart.

During the conversation she discussed how wrestling became more like work for her and less like fun, and that she instantly knew she needed time away from the ring. Mia Yim took a couple of months away from wrestling after her release from WWE, before her debut in IMPACT.

Keith Lee recently took part in the AEW Casino Battle Royal for a chance to face Jon Moxley in the main event of the June 8th, 2022 episode of AEW Dynamite. During that match, Swerve Strickland eliminated Lee, much to Lee’s unhappiness.

Kyle O’Reilly went on to lose to Moxley in the main event, with Moxley going on to Forbidden Door to challenge for the Interim AEW World Championship against Hiroshi Tanahashi.
