25 years ago, the February 2nd, 1998 episode of Monday Night Raw featured an iconic stunt in the red brand’s history – one that Vince McMahon himself performed ahead of the show to ease the minds of the performers involved.
On that night, Chainsaw Charlie (the alter-ego of hardcore icon Terry Funk) faced his own tag team partner Cactus Jack (one of the faces of Mick Foley) in a hardcore match. Cactus Jack wheeled out an enormous dumpster full of weapons to be used in the bout, and the two performed multiple stunts including ladders as well.
The pair were embroiled in a feud with the New Age Outlaws at the time, and after Cactus Jack backdropped Chainsaw Charlie into the dumpster and delivered an elbow that sent Styrofoam peanuts flying everywhere, Road Dogg and Billy Gunn appeared on the ramp. They closed the dumpster lid and secured it with zip ties before shoving the dumpster off the ramp onto the floor below with Foley and Funk still inside.

Road Dogg Revealed That Vince McMahon Was Thrown Off The Stage Inside The Dumpster Ahead Of WWE Raw
Speaking on a May 2022 episode of his Oh You Didn’t Know? podcast, Road Dogg spoke about the infamous stunt and revealed that WWE CEO Vince McMahon himself got inside the dumpster ahead of Raw to prove that the stunt was safe for Mick Foley and Terry Funk to perform.
“And so, but to before they did this, guess who got in that thing and took that ride first? Vince McMahon.”
When his co-host chided the WWE Hall of Famer and joked that it couldn’t be true, Road Dogg doubled down, saying Vince was known for performing stunts as he wouldn’t ask talent to do anything that he wasn’t willing to do himself.
“Hey, that but that’s, dude, he’s done that so many times. The zipline with Shawn Michaels, the jumping off of stuff onto onto a crash pad. He’s done that so many times to show, ‘I’m not asking you to do something that I wouldn’t do myself.’ You know, you can think what you want to about him man, but he’s a he’s a man’s man. And he’s an interesting man. You know what I mean? Yeah, he took that before.”
