Why NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi Is Jealous Of WWE

Why Did NJPW Appoint Hiroshi Tanahashi As The New President?

NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi admits to being envious of some aspects of WWE.

Back in December, it was announced that Hiroshi Tanahashi would be taking on the role of President of New Japan Pro Wrestling. Speaking in a new interview with Pivot Talk, Tanahashi was asked about WWE, and he had this to say, admitting he’s envious of the promotion being open to men and women as well as their ability to create stars:

“I guess one thing that is helpful is that it’s open to both men and women, regardless of age. Also, the speed at which star wrestlers keep coming out, the speed of this turnover. This is again, a little bit different from the way it is done with Japanese promotions. Well, I do feel envious of that.”

Hiroshi Tanahashi Called Becoming NJPW President A “Learning Process”

During an exclusive interview with Liam Wyatt of Inside the Ropes back in February, Hiroshi Tanahashi admitted the shakeup in NJPW and Kazuchika Okada’s departure from the company presented challenges for him in his new role, but he’s learning and doing the best he can to provide stability for fans.

“It’s been a real learning process. On top of taking the new role, there’s been a lot going on in the last month with Kazuchika Okada deciding to leave as well. But I’ve been throwing myself into it every day, picking up a lot of knowledge, and giving the fans a little stability and reassurance as well. I think what this new role can mean is something that we’re all finding out as we go, and we’ll continue to be on that journey together.”

During the same interview, Hiroshi Tanahashi outlined his blueprint for NJPW’s success.
