LA Knight has admitted that there were some concerns prior to the biggest match of his WWE career.
2023 saw the rise of Knight with the surge in popularity of The Megastar among fans. Left off WrestleMania 39 and missing out on Money in the Bank, the Yeah movement grew stronger each week to the point that it couldn’t be ignored any longer.
Following on from a brief alliance with John Cena, Knight was granted an opportunity to succeed where so many had failed as he challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed Championship in Saudi Arabia at the Crown Jewel Premium Live Event. While the fans were happy to see Knight in the main event picture, the SmackDown star had something in the back of his mind.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Knight pointed out that he was thrust right into the main event before being previously a part of the mid-card title scene. Knight admitted that he was worried that fans may reject his push as he had been propelled to the top of the card and quickly presented as the top babyface:
“There’s so many different ways to look at that (Bully Ray’s assessment that maybe Knight is ‘sick & tired’ of being put on the backburner & not getting the push he deserves)… Maybe there was a little too far of a push a little too fast and that’s not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but a little bit of a steady build going into a championship match or something like that. As far as going to the U.S. Championship or the Intercontinental Championship or something like that.
But jumping straight into the WWE Championship back at Crown Jewel was a little fast to where I almost worried that it might make people go, ah! They’re not gonna do this? They’re not gonna shove him down our throat like this? Are they? Because there is that potential. At the same time, right now, I think I’m in a damn good spot… I don’t know if I’m selling myself short so much as I’m just cautiously optimistic.”
LA Knight Comments On The Rock’s Bold Claims
Knight will compete at WrestleMania as he faces off against the man who caused him to lose at Elimination Chamber, AJ Styles. Also competing at WrestleMania 40 is The Rock, who returned on New Year’s Day and has been doing everything in his power to stop Cody Rhodes from finishing the story. With WWE being extremely popular heading into the event, The Rock believes that he is solely responsible for the increased buzz surrounding the company. However, during the same interview, LA Knight gave an alternative view to The Rock’s viewpoint.
