Kevin Owens has revealed how close he came to losing his temper while trying to get approval to use his old finishing move, the package piledriver, in WWE.
Speaking on an episode of Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Owens detailed the long and frustrating process. He explained:
“Well, the package piledriver was something I’ve asked many times before, and it was always ‘No, not right now, not today, doesn’t work, can’t do it.’ Until eventually, it was, ‘Yeah, okay, let’s do it.’”
Owens hadn’t used the move since signing with the company in 2014. When the time finally came, he admitted he initially decided against using it on Randy Orton, saying:
“I didn’t feel like hitting it on Randy was the best decision. I thought a normal piledriver was enough for Randy because Randy is gigantic, and quite frankly, I didn’t think I could get him up for the package piledriver because of the way his body needs to be. He’s just too massive.”
Instead, Owens saved the move for Cody Rhodes at Saturday Night’s Main Event on 14 December 2024. Following their Undisputed WWE Championship main event, Owens finally hit the package piledriver in a WWE ring.
Reflecting on the moment, Owens said:
“It was cool. I waited a long time to get to do that in WWE. And the funny part is I knew Penta was coming, and Penta was doing package piledriver and I was like, ‘He better not get to do it before me because I will lose my sh*t.’ But it all worked out.”
Which Former WWE Executive Blasted Kevin Owens Following His Vince McMahon Assault Segment?
Kevin Owens recalled how he shared a moment with Stephanie McMahon after his famous segment with Vince McMahon that saw him deliver a headbutt, superkick, and frog splash to the former WWE Chairman. Owens said that the moment with Stephanie was unfortunately not shown on TV but saw her confront Owens after he’d finished attacking her father and shouting at him “Get the f*ck to the back.”
