Why John Cena Has Been Absent From WWE TV Since Raw On Netflix Debut

John Cena has been notably absent from WWE TV since his return at the start of the year and the reason for the absence has been revealed.

After announcing in 2024 that 2025 would be his final year as an in-ring competitor, Cena made his first appearance of the year as part of the star-studded Raw on Netflix premiere episode on January 6th. After first teasing that he was unsure if he could win another World Championship, John Cena officially declared his entry in the Royal Rumble match.

In the three weeks that have followed since the appearance, Cena has not made his return to TV and is unlikely to be seen onscreen again until the Premium Live Event on February 1st. With the 16-time World Champion notably absent for the past few weeks, the reason for his absence is due to another commitment.

As reported by Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Cena has been in Budapest filming the upcoming Matchbox film, which will be based on the popular toy car franchise. The film is being produced by Apple TV and will be directed by Sam Hargrave, who directed the hit Netflix films Extraction and Extraction 2 starring Chris Hemsworth,

Speaking in a recent interview, a top WWE star stated that they wanted to be the one to retire John Cena.
