Why Dustin Rhodes Will Never Wrestle Cody Rhodes Again

The WWE Legend Who Declares Cody & Dustin Rhodes As The Best Second Generation Wrestlers

AEW star Dustin Rhodes has addressed the possibility of one more match against his brother Cody Rhodes and why it will not be happening.

The Rhodes brothers have only faced off twice throughout each of their respective careers. While the Goldust vs. Stardust match at WWE Fastlane 2013 was regarded by many as underwhelming, the Cody vs. Dustin match at AEW Double or Nothing 2019 was the complete opposite. A bloody and emotional match, the Rhodes vs. Rhodes bout at the inaugural AEW pay-per-view received critical acclaim and is still regarded as one of the best bouts in the history of the promotion almost 6 years later.

Although they have each gone their separate ways in wrestling, fans have speculated that Cody and Dustin’s paths may cross again before all is said and done. However, for anyone who wants a sequel to their 2019 epic, the AEW star has stated it won’t be happening.

First addressing the success of his brother on social media, The Natural stated how proud he was of all of the Rhodes family accomplishments over the years:

I get asked daily about how I feel about Cody’s success. I love it and I am super proud. Proud of him, proud of my dad, proud of our family. We all 3 have different styles that stand us out and Cody has definitely surpassed every expectation of him. We are all different in many ways and each of us have left its mark on the world of pro wrestling and entertainment and that #RhodesTrain ain’t stopping. #RhodesFam

Responding to one fan who stated that the story won’t be over until there is a Goldust vs. Cody match, Rhodes said that there would not be a third match:

“No. I will never fight him again. I wouldn’t dare touch something so magical.”

Dustin Rhodes To Remain With AEW

When Cody left AEW in 2022 to return to WWE, fans anticipated that The Natural would follow when his contract expired. However, in late 2024, Dustin Rhodes confirmed that he had signed a new deal and commented on retirement plans.
