Why Booker T Is Not Surprised By WWE Releases

Booker T Makes Bold Prediction For WWE Royal Rumble

Hall of Famer and NXT announcer Booker T has admitted that he was not caught off guard by the latest round of WWE releases.

On May 2nd, news broke that multiple members of the WWE main roster and NXT had been informed that their time with the company was coming to an end. Along with high-profile names such as Braun Strowman and Dakota Kai being a part of the cut, popular NXT stars Cora Jade and Gigi Dolin were also among the releases.

Speaking about the cuts on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T admitted that the cuts were expected given the time of year:

“It didn’t catch me off guard at all. I’ve been a part of WWE now for a very, very long time, and every year, especially after WrestleMania, a list comes out, and guys get cut… getting released is something that’s been happening since I’ve been in this business at a certain time of the year.”

“I’ve Been Planning To Get That Note For 20 Years”: Booker T On WWE Releases

Continuing, the NXT announcer noted that while no one wants to be on the released list, there is a possibility that anyone can receive the call sooner or later, including himself:

“Do you want to be on that list? Of course not, but this is a business, and that’s one thing that you better always keep in the back of your head that you might be getting let go sooner or later. I’m gonna tell you right now. I’ve been planning to get that note for about 20 years. I’ve been preparing for what’s next knowing that they’re going to come to me one day and go, ‘Hey, Book, man, we appreciate everything you’ve done here, but we’re going a different route.’”

Concluding, the Hall of Famer also offered up the following advice to those on the roster:

“That’s my advice to these young guys. Hopefully they are preparing for a moment like this, so they’ll be ready just to keep everything moving.”

On a previous episode of his podcast, Booker T noted that “the clock is ticking” when it comes to a particular WWE star.
