Why AEW Star Chris Jericho Doesn't Have A Timeline For In-Ring Retirement

Chris Jericho does not have a specific date in mind for when he will call time on his in-ring career.

Providing their career has not come to a premature end due to a serious injury, many wrestlers have a rough date in mind for when they want to bring their time in the squared circle to a close. Some look to have that final match before they reach a specific age while others feel that a certain event is the appropriate venue to compete one final time. Although Jericho may have a certain date in mind, he’s not going to let the fans know when that might be.

While interviewed by TMZ Sports, Jericho admitted that he never lays out a timeline for retirement as it might not be time to retire when that day comes:

“I would never put a, you know, a timeline on anything. It’s like Kiss does a retirement tour and then you know two years later they’re still on the tour and then 10 years later they’re done with it or whatever it may be. I’ve never been that type of guy to put a number on it. It’s how I feel.”

A part of AEW since day 1, Jericho has remained a prominent feature in the first 5 years of the promotion and was the first World Champion. Looking back on what AEW has done for his career, Jericho admitted that had it not existed he may have decided that it was time to hang up the boots:

“Had there been no AEW, I don’t know if I’d still be wrestling right now, to be honest with you, because, you know, I left WWE, I went to start working for New Japan, then the pandemic happened, you had to go quarantine there for two weeks. I never would stay in a hotel room for two weeks. I’d lose my mind.”

“So I don’t put a number in anything. It’s how I feel, and more mentally than physically. Physically is fine; mentally is where you have to be 1000% committed to really make a difference in pro wrestling and entertainment and AEW.”

In a new video, Chris Jericho praised his own ratings success compared to the younger talent.

Chris Jericho Recalls Interaction With Sports Icon

Known for reinventing himself countless times throughout his career, one highlight from his time in WWE was “The List of Jericho”, which saw the former World Champion take issue with his enemies and put them on the list. During a separate interview, Chris Jericho recalled what happened when he put Tom Brady on the list.
