Fans eagerly awaiting details for the 2025 AEW Forbidden Door event may have to hold on a bit longer.
According to the latest report in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter by Dave Meltzer, AEW is eyeing London’s O2 Arena as the venue for the 2025 pay-per-view, but WWE’s upcoming events at the same location may delay any official announcement.
WWE has booked the O2 Arena for SmackDown on March 28th and Raw on March 31st as part of an extensive European tour spanning March 14th to March 31st with six television tapings across Europe. Meltzer explained the potential impact of WWE’s scheduling, writing:
WWE will be doing its most extensive European tour in years from 3/14 to 3/31, including six television tapings. The tapings will be 3/14 SmackDown in Barcelona, Spain, 3/17 Raw in Brussels, Belgium, 3/21 SmackDown in Bologna, Italy, 3/24 Raw in Glasgow, Scotland, 3/28 SmackDown in London and 3/31 Raw in London, both at the O2 Arena.
The anticipation surrounding AEW Forbidden Door in August is high, with the O2 Arena likely to provide a prominent stage for AEW’s annual crossover with NJPW. However, Meltzer speculates that WWE’s March events at the O2 might prevent AEW from confirming the venue or releasing tickets until WWE’s events have concluded.
The expectation has been that AEW is running Forbidden Door at the O2 Arena next year in August, but haven’t been able to announce the arena. Most likely this is the reason and thus AEW won’t be able to announce the arena or put tickets on sale until sometime after the end of March, depending on what the specifics were for the WWE deal.
With both companies each pushing for a presence in London’s premier arena, fans will likely have to wait until later in the spring for official Forbidden Door details.
