More than 6 months after the initial announcement, AEW finally provided more details regarding its return to the UK.
Back in August 2024 shortly before All In, the promotion confirmed that it would be back in the UK in 2025 with Forbidden Door. However, as months went by, there were no updates from the promotion regarding a location, only that the show would be taking place somewhere in London.
On April 15th, 8 months after the initial announcement, AEW finally made the news official by confirming that Forbidden Door would be taking place at the O2 Arena in London along with Dynamite and Collision tapings in Glasgow, Scotland. With there being a significant delay between the updates, the reason was due to a prior agreement.
As reported by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the announcement was held back until mid-April due to the agreement in place for the WWE Raw and SmackDown tapings that took place in March as part of the European tour:
As had been expected, AEW’s Forbidden Door show will take place at the O2 Arena in London on 8/24. They had announced a return for that show last August but not the arena. It was figured to be the O2 but the contract they signed with the arena, because of a contract the arena had already signed with WWE for the TV tapings in that building on 3/28 and 3/31 in the building. The contract specified that no other wrestling promotion could announce a date in the building until 15 days after the WWE show takes place, so AEW was not allowed to announce the building until this week.
