With the reported launch of a brand new show and the impending return of CM Punk, it is believed that AEW will be introducing a roster split.
While the true nature of the split and the full motivation behind it is unclear, it has been reported that Punk’s return has played a major role in the decision. According to those reports, Punk will be appearing on the new show titled Collision and kept away from The Elite.
This has led to speculation over who will land where when all is said and done.
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer notes that Punk is expected to be joined on Saturdays by FTR and likely Chris Jericho. With regard to Dynamite, that will be headed up by The Elite — Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks — and the Blackpool Combat Club led by Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson. As Ramage will continue to be taped on a Wednesday it’s expected that the show will feature many of the “Wednesday crew.”
“If the idea is a talent split, with one group working Wednesday and another working Saturday, because Rampage is likely to be taped on Wednesday, that would mean it would have the Wednesday night crew predominately. The Saturday crew will be headed by Punk and FTR and the Wednesday crew by The Elite and BCC.
There have been rumors of Chris Jericho on Saturday because Punk in particular will need a strong opponent. That could be why the meeting was arranged with Jericho.”
CM Punk’s AEW Return To Feature Another Huge Surprise
AEW Collision is reportedly set to launch on June 17th live from the United Center although this is yet to be confirmed by AEW. It is expected that the show will feature the return of CM Punk in the same venue where he famously made his AEW debut.
Furthermore, it has now been reported that Punk’s return won’t be the only major story on the show. He will reportedly be joined by another “major name debut or return.”
At present there is no word on who that debut or return might be, although Mercedes Mone, Kota Ibushi, and Goldberg have all been linked with WWE in recent weeks.
