Who Suggested That Mick Foley Should Enter The WWE Royal Rumble 3 Times?

Mick Foley has looked back on his historic entry in the 1998 WWE Royal Rumble match and who was the one responsible for his involvement.

While there are many records in the Royal Rumble match such as Santino having the fastest elimination, Roxanne Perez spending the longest time in the Women’s match and Kane having the record for all-time eliminations, Foley is the only wrestler to enter the Rumble match 3 times in one night.

Entering the match at number 1 as Cactus Jack, Foley appeared later as Mankind at number 16 and Dude Love at number 28. Although he made up a third of the entrants and was still unable to emerge victorious, the spot is still fondly remembered nearly 30 years later and is one of the Hall of Famer’s career highlights.

During an appearance at For The Love of Wrestling, Foley was asked if he was the one who came up with the spot, to which Foley responded that credit should go to Vince Russo:

“It wasn’t my idea because I don’t think I’d be bold as to suggest that I’d be in three different times. I know this is going to get another boo, but I believe it was a Vince idea but not Vince McMahon; I think it was a Vince Russo idea, honestly,” said Foley. “He [Russo] had some really good ideas over the years.”

Mick Foley Discusses WWE Hall Of Fame

As WrestleMania weekend approaches, so too does the 2025 Hall of Fame ceremony, which currently has Triple H and Michelle McCool announced as the confirmed inductees. In a previous interview, Mick Foley made an interesting suggestion for a future WWE Hall of Fame induction.
