When Is WWE WrestleMania Backlash? How To Watch, Date & Time, Match Card

By Gary Cassidy. Published 13th April 2021.
WWE WrestleMania Backlash

WrestleMania 37 is now in the rear-view mirror, and the fallout from the Show of Shows will continue at WWE WrestleMania Backlash – announced on Night 2 of WrestleMania – as we get started on the road to WrestleMania 38!

Last year’s Backlash event took place in June, with Money In The Bank slotting in between it and WrestleMania, but this year’s show has moved back to it’s post-Mania slot, and been rebranded as WrestleMania Backlash – tying it to the biggest show of the professional wrestling calendar.

The 2020 edition of the show was branded the Greatest Wrestling Match Ever – as Randy Orton and Edge faced off in the main event in a WrestleMania rematch. Elsewhere on the show, Drew McIntyre successfully defended his WWE Championship against the man he’ll challenge this year, Bobby Lashley. Other matches on the card saw Braun Strowman defend his Universal Championship in a Handicap Match against The Miz and John Morrison, Asuka and Nia Jax fight to a double count-out, Sheamus defeat Jeff Hardy, Bayley and Sasha Banks triumph in a Women’s Tag Team Championship Triple Threat and Apollo Crews defeat Andrade in a United States Championship Match.

But how do you watch along with WrestleMania Backlash 2021? When does the pay-per-view start? And what matches are on the card? Here at Inside The Ropes, we have all the information you need to know ahead of the show!

When is WrestleMania Backlash?

This year’s Backlash, stylised as WrestleMania Backlash, is currently scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 16th and will emanate from the WWE ThunderDome at Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida. As of now, no live fans will be in attendance, but a virtual audience will be.

The “main show” will begin at 1am on the morning of Monday 17th in the UK. However, there will likely be a ‘Kickoff’ show on for one hour first from midnight, which will be shown for FREE on WWE’s YouTube channel, as well as Facebook and Twitter.

How can I watch WrestleMania Backlash?

The WWE WrestleMania Backlash Kickoff will stream at midnight UK time on the WWE Network and Peacock, with the pay-per-view starting immediately after at midnight.

The WWE Network costs £9.99 per month for subscribers, and can be cancelled at any time. There is a free tier of the WWE Network available, however pay-per-views require a paid subscription – which unlocks all content on the Network. If you’re in the US, Peacock has two tiers – one for $4.99 and a premium ad-free version for $9.99.

Elsewhere, BT Sport Box Office will be showing the event LIVE in the UK.

What is the match card for WrestleMania Backlash?

The card for WrestleMania Backlash thus far is as follows:

  • Bobby Lashley defends the WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre and Braun Strowman
  • Roman Reigns defends the Universal Championship against Cesaro
  • Bianca Belair defends the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Bayley
  • Rhea Ripley defends the RAW Women’s Championship against Asuka and Charlotte Flair
  • Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode defend the SmackDown Tag Team Championships against Dominik and Rey Mysterio.

Watch WWE WrestleMania Backlashlive on the WWE Network – and via Peacock in the United States – on Sunday, May 16th.
