CM Punk hasn’t been seen in AEW since taking part in the now-infamous brawl following AEW All Out.
Minutes after winning the AEW World Championship in the main event of All Out, Punk took part in a media scrum where he launched into a verbal tirade against former friend Colt Cabana, ‘Hangman’ Adam Page, and though he didn’t call them out by name, the AEW EVP’s, who he said “couldn’t manage a Target.”
Enraged, The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega confronted Punk in his dressing room, and the brawl that ensued has now become the stuff of legend. Not only were punches thrown, Punk’s trainer and friend Ace Steel threw a chair at Nick Jackson as well as biting Omega. Everyone involved in the melee was suspended, and Punk and The Elite were stripped of the title’s they’d won just hours before.
While The Elite returned to the company at Full Gear, Punk’s future has remained in doubt. While he and the company were reportedly making progress in talks for him to return, a now-deleted Instagram tirade calling out Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley renewed tensions and seemed to cast doubt that the two sides would ever reach a resolution.
However, in recent days it’s become clear that Punk wants to return to AEW as confirmed by numerous reports as well as Punk’s longtime friend Dax Harwood. An update from Fightful Select yesterday stated that he’s even willing to work with The Elite, though the AEW EVP’s are less keen on working with Punk after such a public falling out.
CM Punk May Once Again Return To AEW In Chicgao
Now, another update from Fightful Select sheds more light on the situation, stating the “wheels are already in motion”. The new report revealed that they’d been told the June 21st episode of Dynamite would be “a date to look out for,” and the company just announced that it will be returning to the Wintrust Arena in Chicago on that date. According to the report, the working plan as of April 13th is for Punk to return on that date, though things could always change as nothing is set in stone.
Some within the company have pitched announcing the return well in advance as opposed to keeping it a surprise.
According to Fightful, Punk is not only willing but is hoping to work with Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks following his return, but Fightful hasn’t heard of communication between the two sides. Punk has reportedly been pushing for a meeting between everyone for some time but there is no word on if progress has been made in this area.
Continuing, the report reveals that a meeting is set between Punk and Chris Jericho to see if they would be able to work together as the two have had multiple issues in the past.
