AJ Lee’s long-term WWE future reported following her recent SmackDown return.
After more than a decade away and years of speculation, AJ Lee finally returned to WWE during the September 5 episode of SmackDown. During her comeback, she attacked Becky Lynch, who has been getting physical with CM Punk for the past few weeks after aligning with Seth Rollins at Clash in Paris.
Following AJ’s SmackDown return, it was later reported by PWInsider that Lee’s next appearance will take place on next week’s RAW, September 8, to officially set up the mixed tag team match between her and CM Punk against Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch at Wrestlepalooza. Now, more rumors regarding the returning superstar have emerged.
According to Fightful Select, although there is no confirmation yet on AJ Lee’s schedule, it’s believed that her recent return won’t be a one-time only affair, and some talents weren’t scheduled for SmackDown to see the former Divas Champion’s return.
Also, the site reported that Lee wasn’t on any internal rundowns, the same as Brock Lesnar, who returned earlier that night to interfere during John Cena vs. Sami Zayn for the United States Championship.
However, Lee not being included in the internal rundown isn’t a rarity, and most people in the promotion already assumed she was returning, and didn’t think WWE would be “heavy-handed about it without a plan.”
