Paul Heyman had words of praise for Damian Priest after this segment on WWE Raw.
On the November 4th episode of Monday Night Raw, Damian Priest defeated Seth Rollins, Dominik Mysterio, and Sheamus to become the number one contender for Gunther’s championship.
On the November 11th episode of Raw, Damian Priest confronted Gunther in the ring, claiming that the World Heavyweight Champion’s vibe had faded, especially after Gunther lost to Cody Rhodes at Crown Jewel earlier this month. Priest was pleased with how the segment came across, and speaking to Peter Rosenberg on a recent episode of Cheap Heat, he revealed the conversation he had with Paul Heyman after the segment.
“I felt good, I felt comfortable. I was flowing. I just went in, and it just felt good. For instance, [Paul] Heyman was talking to me after, and he was like, ‘There’s no distinction between the character and the person. That’s you now.’ That felt good. I was appreciative of his words. For me, it felt smooth, man. I think I finally know how to just be me.” (h/t Fightful)
Damian Priest Received Valuable Advice From The Undertaker
Learning to be himself onscreen has been a process for Damian Priest, and during another recent interview with The Wrestling Classic, Priest spoke about receiving advice from The Undertaker telling him to do just that.
“I think the main thing my favorite thing about every piece of advice that he gives me is that he’s straight with me, even if it’s something that you don’t necessarily want to hear. He’s not going to sugarcoat anything, and I appreciate that because that’s the only way I’m actually going to get better or just achieve something else. I don’t need pats on the back. I don’t need ‘Good job.’ I need ‘Okay, it’s fine, but if you would have did this this way’ or ‘Think about it like this’ or ‘Be careful about this.’”
“[The advice] is basically to be yourself; turn up the volume … ‘When you’re out there, where’s this guy?’ Just simplifying things of who I am and how to present myself and what not to do. You don’t have to beg the crowd for acceptance, just be you” (h/t WrestlingInc)
