What Is The Current Update On The Lucha Bros’ Situation With AEW And WWE?

The Lucha Bros Penta Oscuro Rey Fenix make their entrance on AEW Rampage 2022

Are The Lucha Bros finally making their move from AEW to WWE?

The Lucha Bros or The Lucha Brothers is a popular tag team in AEW consisting of Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix. Penta and Fenix have been linked with a move to WWE for some time now after their current contract expires.

However, a recent report from Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that Tony Khan has added nearly a year’s worth of injury time to Rey Fenix’s contract and also approached them to extend their stay at the promotion. While PW Nexus did not confirm the injury time clause, they instead claimed:

We have not heard any time being added yet to Rey Fenix, and it seemed like sources were confident of the deal getting signed sooner, rather than later, which merch already being made for the duo.

As our original report stated it’s possible they did sign or would be signing soon based off those we spoke with.

These reports were followed up by another latest update from Fightful Select, which shared that WWE was made aware of Fenix’s inability to join the promotion only last week. The former International Champion missed over six months of action between October 2023 and June 2024. He also missed several months in 2022 and 2021.

The report from Fightful Select further noted that time has been even added on Penta’s contract. Although, Fightful Select is unsure of the tag-team’s future in Tony Khan’s promotion.

If their stay is extended, fans can expect to see the tag-team help put over other talents on the roster before parting ways with the promotion.
