Jey Uso lost the World Heavyweight Championship to Gunther on the latest edition of RAW, but there could be a silver lining to his WWE title loss.
Jey’s loss to The Ring General stunned the world, and the booking decision had fans divided. While some appreciated the change, others were left puzzled and disappointed. As per JBL and Conrad Thompson, there could be a bigger angle at play, which could justify the loss, setting up new storylines for both Jey Uso and Gunther.
Appearing on the “Something To Wrestle With Bruce Prichard” podcast, WWE legend JBL was asked about his thoughts on the loss. Bradshaw said it was a good call, and further stated that changes help freshen up the scene. He also referenced how in the early 2000s, title changes were frequent, even on house shows, and that WWE having champions with longer reigns is a more recent development. He said:
“I like what they did. I don’t know where they’re headed with this, but I kind of like the fact that they changed things up. You know, you go in different spurts. So, you know, you went through—like, I remember around the 2000s, right at the turn of the decade—you were changing titles all the time.”
JBL was also asked what he thought about Uso returning to the tag team scene. The veteran noted that it was always an option, and while Main Event Jey had solidified himself as a singles main eventer, he could switch between both divisions and be part of the great tag team, The Usos, whenever needed. The legend felt it was a fantastic idea, and this could give Jey’s character an extended shelf life. He responded:
“The Usos being back together? I think that’s fantastic. And it gives Jey a longer shelf life. Fortunately, Jey is part of one of the greatest tag teams of all time. And you could argue that they may end up being the greatest tag team of all time. He can go from being this great single’s main event guy to being in this great tag team, back and forth. Man, that is a long shelf life for a guy, because now you’re not just limited to one thing you can do. I think it’s fantastic.”
The WWE legend was also asked about the heavily rumored Goldberg-Gunther feud for the Hall of Famer’s final match. Bradshaw felt that it was the most logical matchup. He said:
“I don’t know what they’re doing with Goldberg, but obviously, Goldberg against Gunther—you know, you need a big heel like Gunther, a big, tough guy. It’s—I think—the perfect matchup for Goldberg, if that’s where they go.”

If Jey Uso’s storyline does pan out this way, and The Usos do end up reuniting, then the World Heavyweight Championship loss does seem to make sense, as it would help Jey bounce back, whereas Gunther and Goldberg can have a match with high stakes involved.
Gunther Addresses Goldberg Rumors After WWE Title Win
The Ring General, who is currently in his second reign with the World Heavyweight Title, stated that the win was not at all a surprise for him.
He even mocked people for thinking that Seth Rollins would cash in or that Goldberg would interfere. Gunther said he was least bothered about such rumors, as these stars had stayed away from him during his first championship reign.
How these storylines will pan out can only be speculated at this time, though with the caliber of stars like Jey Uso and Gunther, they can be assured of riveting storylines.
