What Happened On WWE RAW This Week? Winners and Losers – Roman Reigns’ Decimation, 3rd El Grande Americano Debuts, And More

WWE RAW Winners and Losers July 28

The go-home episode of WWE RAW before SummerSlam saw some great action, while some other aspects seemed underwhelming. There were some great matches on the show, including some mixed tag team action.

WWE RAW started with a tribute to legendary icon Hulk Hogan, as the Hall of Famer passed away recently. The show was attended by his son and daughter-in-law, along with Eric Bischoff, among other legends. The tag team titles were also on the line, but more than what happened in the match, the debut of another El Grande Americano grabbed the headlines.

Roman Reigns was left in a heap by the end of the show by Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker, while CM Punk verbally decimated Gunther ahead of their world title match at SummerSlam.

With a lot to unpack, here’s a look at what happened on WWE RAW this week:

#4. Loser: Karrion Kross dropped his first major hint that he might be leaving WWE

Corey Graves was in a backstage interview with Sami Zayn when Karrion Kross and Scarlett Bordeaux intervened, as they wanted to talk to Zayn. The stars had a back-and-forth conversation where Kross stated that if he wins at SummerSlam, Zayn would have to admit that The Herald of Doomsday was right, and then Kross would go away for good, leaving The Underdog from the Underworld to pursue the world title.

Karrion Kross’ comments did not sit well with a lot of fans, who wondered what the star meant by going away. For those unaware, Kross and Bordeaux’s WWE contracts are set to be coming up in August, with a renewal not in sight.

It certainly does not come as good news for fans who were expecting Kross to renew his contract and stay back with WWE for the foreseeable future.

#3. Winner: A third El Grande Americano has debuted

If two El Grande Americanos were not enough, now fans have a third El Grande Americano to deal with on WWE RAW. The first version of the masked luchador was believed by many to be Chad Gable, while the second one was thought to be Ludwig Kaiser. Now, a third Americano debuted on the latest episode of WWE RAW, intervening in The Judgment Day’s tag team title match, helping them get the win.

It has been widely thought to be a former champion who has been absent for 119 days on RAW. However, no clarification on the matter has yet been received.

The El Grande situation gets more interesting with each passing week, as fans are really into the whole storyline. It remains to be seen how Triple H will unravel this mystery.

#2. Winner and Loser: What Did CM Punk Say To Gunther On WWE RAW?

CM Punk and Gunther had another enticing yet baffling segment on WWE RAW. While this week it was CM Punk’s turn to rip into the World Heavyweight Champion, after the latter did the same to him last week, it’s still baffling as to why they couldn’t have a back-and-forth promo segment.

The things Punk said to Gunther this week could have easily been said last week. He did not need another week to prepare for it. But it seems that while it was a great promo, it did not do anything to heighten the interest in the match.

Gunther did try to interrupt Punk during the promo, but the latter simply shut him up. Promo battles are most interesting when two people, who are present in the ring, just lambast each other with whatever they have.

Undoubtedly, whatever was said on both episodes of WWE RAW by The Ring General and The Second City Saint were captivating promos and supremely entertaining, but a great promo battle would have been the icing on the cake.

#1. Winner: Roman Reigns was humanized on WWE RAW

Roman Reigns is often presented as this larger-than-life character who barely gets beaten up or assaulted in any programming he is in. The OTC is undoubtedly a mammoth presence on screen, and his aura is unbelievable. However, sometimes it just so happens that humanizing a character helps with fans sympathizing with them and having a soft corner for them in their hearts.

This is exactly what happened on the latest episode of WWE RAW. Roman Reigns was brutalized, decimated, put through barricades, and unable to walk by the end of RAW, thanks to Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. This led to fans audibly gasping over whether he was injured and if he could continue toward SummerSlam.

After the assault, Reigns was helped back by officials who were also concerned for the star. The beauty in presentation and the subtlety of creating two monsters on screen, while humanizing another who has been more or less presented as a god, made for a great storyline.

It certainly was the best segment on WWE RAW and really helped captivate fans en route to SummerSlam.
