CM Punk wants Cody Rhodes to finish his story.
Survivor Series saw CM Punk make a shocking return to WWE for the first time since his acrimonious exit in 2014. The star made it clear in the following weeks that he wanted to accomplish the one goal that eluded him during his previous run with the company: he wanted to main event WrestleMania.
Meanwhile, Cody Rhodes has been on a quest to finish his story and become the first man in his family to win the WWE Championship. Rhodes and Punk had a heated face to face confrontation on the January 22nd edition of Raw as both men vowed to win the Royal Rumble to make each of their dreams come true.
The final moments of the men’s Rumble match saw Cody and Punk as the final two entrants, and despite his declaration that he didn’t “wait ten years to lose to Dusty’s kid,” Punk was eventually eliminated, leaving Rhodes victorious in securing a WrestleMania title match of his choosing.
On January 29th, reports emerged that CM Punk had been injured in the Royal Rumble when taking a Future Shock DDT from Drew McIntyre. Sure enough, a heartbroken Punk confirmed on Monday Night Raw that he’d torn his triceps and that WrestleMania was not in the cards for him this year. Prior to his injury, it was reported that plans were in place for Punk to face Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Title on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
Punk was confronted and then attacked by Drew McIntyre, who targeted the already-injured arm and gloated that he’d prayed for Punk to be taken out of WrestleMania.

WWE took to social media to post a backstage clip of Punk and Rhodes at Monday Night Raw. With tears in his eyes, Punk hugged Cody and said:

CM Punk has since undergone surgery and has made a bold claim about his WWE return.
