WWE will not be presenting any live shows for the remainder of 2023.
Thankfully for the Superstars, having to work over Christmas like they did in 2018 will not be the case. In a significant morale booster for all, the last live broadcast was the December 18th edition of Raw, giving everyone in the company an extended break as subsequent episodes of NXT and SmackDown have been taped ahead of time.
With December 25th falling on a Monday in 2023, it has already been announced that Raw will be a best-of edition of the red brand to look back on all the biggest moments of the past year. However, with the talent back to work on December 26th with Holiday Tour live events, nothing has been officially announced regarding the following edition of SmackDown on December 29th.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, this will also be a best-of-show, as the company will be presenting house shows on that day in Las Vegas, NV and Toronto, Canada:
There will be no new Raw or Smackdown next week. The 12/25 and 12/29 shows respectively will be best of shows. It’s funny because WWE is on tour on 12/29 and obviously a TV taping would draw better in one of those markets and do much higher ratings
WWE Announces Big Matches For First Live Show In 2024
It will be business as usual again on New Year’s Day, as the company have announced that the January 1st Raw will be a Day 1 special edition of the Monday night show, reviving the Premium Live Event concept from 2022. To start the year off strong, WWE has already announced multiple big matches for the upcoming show, including Seth Rollins defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Drew McIntyre.
