“They’re Going To The Well Too Many Times” – Wrestling Veteran On The Acclaimed Scissoring

Billy Gunn Anthony Bowens The Acclaimed Scissoring

On the November 2nd episode of AEW Dynamite, AEW Tag Team Champions The Acclaimed took to the ring to celebrate the birthday of “Daddy Ass” Billy Gunn. Unfortunately, both of Gunn’s hands were in casts, rendering him unable to properly participate in celebratory scissoring, a problem solved by new foam scissoring fingers merchandise. However, the 59-year-old was touched when Max Caster and Anthony Bowens announced they wanted to officially adopt him as their father.

The Gunn Club confronted the group before the paperwork would be signed, but FTR came out to even the score, challenging The Acclaimed for a future AEW World Tag Team title opportunity.

Though The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn are incredibly popular with AEW audiences, longtime wrestling veteran Konnan thinks the joke is wearing thin. In fact, speaking on his Keepin’ It 100 podcast, he said he thought the segment on AEW Dynamite was “kinda stupid.”

“I love when they [The Acclaimed] come out, their beat. And then the guys rapping, right, always has good lines, you know? The other guy acts like a stupid butt I’m OK with it. I just always think, what is Billy doing with these guys? He looks so out of place. He looks like he’s having fun, but he looks so out of place. Dude, I thought this dragged, you know, I thought it was kind of stupid. How many times can you say scissor me and daddy scissors? This could be over quick, they’re going to the well too many times.” (h/t Sportskeeda)

AEW President Thinks The Acclaimed Have Introduced A Great Way To Greet People

Speaking with Variety back in October, AEW President Tony Khan praised The Acclaimed for introducing what he called a “great way to greet somebody.”

“They found ways to connect with the audience, but also to have great matches, and you have to be able to do both to be a truly top wrestler. Scissoring is something that really connects to the fans. So I think all this week and especially around Wednesday, and maybe the continuing into Thursday at school the next day, there’s going to be people scissoring at school, at work, and in the audience at AEW, and there’s nothing wrong with it. It’s a great way to greet somebody.”
