Despite being voted Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Booker of the Year, AEW President Tony Khan has been under fire from onlookers for some time. The lack of character development, roster use and storylines on AEW television has drawn criticism from fans, and sections of the wrestling media.
Over the past few months, several of the promotion’s stars have publically called out Khan for their lack of opportunity and TV time. Add rumours of backstage issues and relationship breakdowns, and there is seemingly an unhappy environment within AEW.
However, one of the promotion’s top stars, Britt Baker has spoken highly of her wrestling boss. Baker conducted an interview with FoxSportsAU in which she revealed her positive working relationship with Tony Khan.
“Right now I’m not having weekly matches, I’m not having weekly promos, so it’s a little bit backed off. I try not to bother him and bug him (Khan) because there are 100s of other wrestlers texting him on a daily basis, I’m sure. But for example when I was champion, I was texting with Tony several times a week with different ideas, and he was sending me his ideas, and he’s very straight-up with me.
He’d tell me ‘Britt, that’s not a good idea, I don’t like that’, or ‘hey, let’s make this better’, and I really appreciate that from my boss. Honesty is one of the most helpful fools anyone can ever give you when you’re learning your craft, especially when you’re learning TV professional wrestling. I couldn’t ask for a better boss than Tony Khan and he has helped me so much growing as a performer, as a wrestler, as a human being. He’s really a special guy and we’re lucky to work for him.”
What Else Has Tony Khan Got Planned For AEW Revolution?
AEW’s first PPV of the year, Revolution, takes place on March 5th from Chase Center in San Francisco, California. The event is the promotion’s first PPV to be held in the state.
The event already boasts an incredible line-up of seven high-stakes matches such as MJF (c) vs. Bryan Danielson – World Championship (Ironman Match), Jamie Hayter (c) vs. Saraya vs. Ruby Soho – Women’s World Championship and The Elite (c) vs. The House of Black – World Trios Championship.
But if the promotion’s previous PPVs are anything to go by there will be a lot more to come.
