Ric Flair has admitted that he was “wasn’t happy” to find out Vince McMahon had retired, hailing the former WWE Chairman as a “genius.”
When Vince McMahon announced his WWE retirement, the wrestling world stood stunned. Despite the allegations around the now former Chairman, many believed that he would never leave the company he had been building since the early 1980’s.
Speaking in a new interview with Chris Van Vliet on the Insight podcast, a man who worked for, and sometimes against McMahon, Ric Flair gave his thoughts on the news.
Flair said that he “wasn’t happy” about the news, and had “nothing but respect” for his former boss.
“I wasn’t happy about it at all. I love Vince McMahon,” said Flair. “I don’t know what he is doing right now but I feel like he’ll have a hard time. He’ll adjust, obviously, but he loved the business, but he made us all who we are from Hulk [Hogan] to everybody. I don’t care what everybody thinks, he made us. I have nothing but respect for him.”
The WWE Hall of Famer went on to praise McMahon as a “genius.”
Ric Flair is currently preparing to step into the ring one more time at Starrcast V on July 31st. It has been announced that the Nature Boy will team with his real-life son-in-law Andrade El Idolo to take on Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett.
The 16-time World Champion recently disclosed that he is dealing with an injury ahead of the bout, but he’ll still be in the ring come the big night.
