On the December 17 edition of NXT UK, it was announced that Walter would defend his NXT UK Championship against A-Kid in the New Year.
Stood in the middle of the ring with his NXT UK Heritage Cup on display, the Spaniard took to the microphone in order to challenge the indomitable Austrian after detailing his last few months on the brand.
A-Kid wouldn’t have to wait long. Seeing his impressive throne under threat, Walter marched to the ring in order to lay down some home truths of his own. Facing off with the marvel, ‘The Austrian Anomaly’ told Kid that despite respecting what he’d done, he did not take kindly to him taking credit for the heritage of the business as a whole.
Walter then proceeded to accept the challenge which was made official by Assistant to the General Manager – who may as well be General Manager as Johnny Saint hasn’t been seen for months – Sid Scala, for a NXT UK episode in the New Year. The official date is still to be decided.
A-Kid has impressed on NXT UK since the re-launch, winning the NXT UK Heritage Cup in an absolute classic against Trent Seven and then pinning Tyler Bate on December 9 in another worthy outing.
NXT UK are currently putting the emphasis on its younger stars in order to build for the future and it would seem that A-Kid is top of their list of talent.
Walter on the other hand has ruled over the brand since April 5, 2019 when he defeated Pete Dunne to lift what was the then WWE United Kingdom Championship.
The powerhouse will be sitting on a 637 day reign come January 1, 2021, after defeating Ilja Dragunov to retain in a stunning outing on October 29. He looks to break the 685 day reign set by ‘The Bruiserweight’ Pete Dunne.
