Roman Reigns is currently at the top of WWE as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, a position he has held since his blockbuster SummerSlam 2020 return. Surrounding himself with his Bloodline faction, it wasn’t always easy for ‘The Tribal Chief’, as he once had to fight off challenges from his cousin, Jey Uso.
Jey Uso was the first of Roman’s many challengers, challenging for the championship at both Clash of Champions and Hell in a Cell in an unsuccessful fashion. It was only after failing to topple Roman Reigns that ‘Main Event’ Jey sided with Roman, planting the first seeds for the eventual dominating Bloodline faction.
Jey Uso Should Defeat Roman Reigns, Says Vince Russo
Vince Russo, a controversial personality at the best of times, has now claimed that WWE should not only revisit this storyline, but have Jey Uso be the one to ultimately dethrone Roman Reigns. Speaking during his Writing With Russo show with Sportskeeda Wrestling, Russo claimed that Jey needs the moment more than someone like Sami Zayn:
“But now Sami is playing a character on a wrestling show, and he’s different, and he’s very, very entertaining. Now, if I looked at the cards that I have, Sami doesn’t need to be a champion. He’s over. If he continues to do what he’s doing, he’ll be over. I think Jey needs it.”
Continuing, Vince Russo addressed how over Sami Zayn already is, whereas Jey Uso isn’t quite there yet, explaining how another story with Roman Reigns could elevate the Uso brother to that level:
“I think at this point, if we looked at Sami’s way over, Roman’s way over, so if you look at the big picture, Jey probably needs it more. So in this story, I would really concentrate on how to get Jey Uso over and get him to the next level and make [him] as valuable as the other two. That’s what I would do.”
Roman Reigns is next scheduled to defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Logan Paul at WWE Crown Jewel on November 5th.
