Jim Ross Recalls One Of Vince McMahon’s Strangest Storyline Creations

Vince McMahon

Vince McMahon has been known for coming up with some bizarre storylines during his four decades in charge of WWE. From the infamous Katie Vick story, to faking his own death, to literally wrestling God in a tag match, there is nothing McMahon won’t do.

Clearly, Vince McMahon won’t even draw the line at his own family members being involved in risqué storylines, as legendary announcer Jim Ross recalls.

One of Vince McMahon’s Strangest Storyline Creations

On episode #82 of his podcast Grilling JR, Jim Ross spoke briefly about the WWE Chairman’s idea to have former arch-nemesis Eric Bischoff kiss McMahon’s own daughter, Stephanie McMahon.

“It’s so weird, strange. That’s inside the mind of Vince McMahon. Be aware of your journey. It’s just, again, unless you know him real well, and then it’s a crapshoot. Why? Why? I remember that kiss with Eric and Stephanie. She became a hell of a talent on air, a hell of a talent.

I mean, pulling off a kiss like that, and it graduates from somewhat being forced upon her, to her transitioning to where I kind of liked this. So, and old Bish, that was interesting booking, you know. Linda and Stephanie, he may be the only guy in wrestling that have ever had that experience. If that means anything? Probably not.”

He is, of course, referring to the October 31st 2002 edition of Smackdown. This Halloween-themed edition of Smackdown featured the Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff making a surprise appearance. After taking off his Halloween costume (which just so happened to be a Mr. McMahon mask), he kissed Smackdown General Manager Stephanie McMahon, in a segment which was met with disbelief from the wrestling community.

Bischoff would tell Inside the Ropes in 2016 that Vince McMahon was standing only ten feet away during the filming of this segment.

“I’ve got to tell you, making out with Stephanie – in front of her dad – because he was producing it, he was standing like ten feet away and I’m bending her over a desk, swapping spit, that was different.”

This wouldn’t even be the first time where Vince McMahon scripted his own daughter to kiss a fellow performer. He famously had Kurt Angle kiss Stephanie on the August 24th 2000 edition of Smackdown.

Ross also mentions a very similar occurrence which took place on the August 8th 2003 edition of Monday Night Raw, which also happened to involve Eric Bischoff slapping his lips on a McMahon. On this episode, Eric Bischoff forced his way into the McMahon household and kissed WWE CEO Linda McMahon. Once again, the wrestling audience was stunned.
