Vince McMahon’s mother Vicki Askew has tragically passed away at home at the grand old age of 101.
Vicki Askew passed away peacefully of natural causes at her home in The Woodlands, Texas earlier this year on the 20th of January. The South Carolina-born matriarch of the McMahon family had celebrated her 101st birthday on the 11th of July 2021.
Askew was the first wife of Vince J. McMahon, with the couple having two sons, Rod and Vincent Kennedy McMahon with the future WWE Chairman being born on August 24th, 1945.
Back in 2014 Vicki Askew was well into her nineties but still kept very active as she explained in an interview with WJAC-TV after she was honoured by her former tennis club.
Sadly, Vicki’s son Rod passed away back in 2020, one year to the day before his mother’s passing. A lover of tennis, Askew was also said in her obituary to have a lovely soprano voice and sang in several church choirs.
Vicki Askew’s funeral service was held on the 22nd of January at the North Shore Church in Montgomery, Texas. In an interview with the church in 2018, Askew commented on the tough childhood she endured coming from a poor family:
“My mother had to go to work to support me and my three brothers. She started by selling Avon. During the Great Depression, I remember drawing my foot on pasteboard and putting it in my shoe (the sole had holes and no one could afford new shoes).”
Everyone at Inside The Ropes sends their condolences to the friends and family of Vicki Askew at this difficult time.
