A representative for Vince McMahon has issued a statement regarding the latest lawsuit filed against the former Chairman.
On October 23rd, another lawsuit was filed against Vince McMahon along with Linda McMahon and WWE being named as defendants. The filing is in relation to “The Ring Boy Scandal” in the early 90s and alleges that the McMahons and WWE were aware of the sexual abuse of the underage boys but did nothing to stop it. Five survivors (referred to as John Does 1-5), are the plaintiffs in the case.
The scandal first became public in 1992 with former announcer and head of ring crew Mel Phillips being accused of sexual abuse. Phillips, Terry Garvin, and Pat Patterson were all fired from the company but Patterson was brought back until his passing in 2020. As part of an accompanying statement, The lawsuit was filed recently due to the survivors only recently learning of the knowledge McMahon and the WWE had about what happened to the ring boys and that sexual abuse “started at the top with the McMahons.” The press release also cites the January 2024 sexual abuse lawsuit that was filed by former employee Janel Grant.
In a statement issued to Brandon Thurston by McMahon’s attorney Jessica Rosenberg, the claims are described as “untrue and unfounded” with reference to the Phil Mushnick article that was published more than 3 decades prior:
“More than 30 years ago, the columnist Phil Mushnick tried to make headlines with these same false claims. Those allegations were never proven and ultimately became the subject of a defamation lawsuit against Mr. Mushnick.“The negligence claims against Mr. McMahon that were asserted today rely on these same absurd, defamatory and utterly meritless statements by Mr. Mushnick. We will vigorously defend Mr. McMahon and are confident the court will find that these claims are untrue and unfounded.”
Janel Grant’s Attorney Responds To Latest Vince McMahon Lawsuit
The lawsuit which saw Janel Grant accuse McMahon of sexual abuse and trafficking remains ongoing put has been placed on pause until December 2024 at the earliest. Following the Ring Boy Scandal lawsuit being filed, Grant’s team has also issued a statement regarding the recent Vince McMahon lawsuit.
