Vince McMahon once made The Undertaker and another WWE legend stay back in an empty arena to film the botched ending of a match.
Vince McMahon, who was the CEO of WWE for several decades, was known not just for his hilarious antics backstage but also for being a perfectionist. Throughout the years, several WWE stars and legends have told many stories about Vince McMahon, such as how no one could fall asleep in his presence and how he hated botched finishes. The most famous example of this was the botched finish to the 2005 Royal Rumble match featuring John Cena and Batista. McMahon famously tore one of his quads while hurrying to the ring and sat on the floor shouting instructions. He famously tore his other quad backstage in the locker room.
Now, The Undertaker has revealed another crazy story when the former WWE CEO made The Pheom and Kurt Angle stay back in an empty arena to shoot the ending to a match that was botched.
WWE Legends The Undertaker and Kurt Angle Were Made To Stay Back Till 1 AM By Vince McMahon
During one of their matches, The Undertaker and Kurt Angle were supposed to be in a match where the finish would see Angle rolling up The Deadman while being in the Hell’s Gate submission. The idea was to have both legends tap out and get pinned at the same time. However, the camera crew never caught Angle tapping out. This made Vince McMahon irate with anger as he demanded a reshoot of the finish.
Speaking on his Six Feet Under podcast, The Undertaker narrated the story in great detail.
So the finish was again you [Kurt Angle] end up in Hell’s Gate, and then you stack me up, and it was supposed to be a simultaneous thing. But they missed the camera angle. [Kurt] They didn’t get the tap out. [Undertaker] That was the end of the night. So ding ding ding, the bell rings, people start leaving, and Vince loses his mind. He is bats*it crazy. He’s like, ‘We gotta do it over.’ And the crowd is gone. [Kurt] Don’t forget we had to wait till the whole arena left. And then we had to place all the employees in a corner of the arena to make it look like it was a whole arena. [Taker] There were the roadies and the ring crews, and they were there till they got that one shot. And they were getting signs off the ground. And us going through the match, thought this was going to be horrible. Like, we just had this killer match, and we’re going to ruin it like this? And when they edited it, it was seamless.
[Kurt] And I know when everybody left, but man, it took forever, and we had to be there till 1 am to do this. We had to wait two hours after the show was over.”
Elsewhere, on the podcast, Kurt Angle also opened up about his alcohol addiction after leaving WWE the first time.
