Logan Paul has revealed that Vince McMahon was so impressed with his in-ring skills he claimed the star’s future was with WWE.
YouTube star Logan Paul first stepped into a WWE ring as a competitor at WrestleMania 38, teaming with The Miz to take on The Mysterios. The match was a culmination of non-wrestling appearances that had begun over a year before, including a spot at WrestleMania 37.
During an appearance on the Stephen A. Smith Show, ahead of his latest match at SummerSlam, Paul reflected on his debut match, commenting that it went better than he ever imagined.
“I didn’t see it coming either, Stephen A. Smith, I really didn’t. I was invited to do a wrestling match, a tag team match against the Mysterios for WrestleMania, because I had kind of a working relationship with the WWE,” said Paul. “I think halfway through this match, I hit a move that was kind of a spit in the face to the Mysterios, it was in reference to Eddie Guerrero. I was on top of the rope, about to jump off to do my first ever frog splash in the WWE — which is now kind of my move — and I hit this little Eddie Guerrero shimmy and the crowd goes crazy. But they’re all boos, right?”
Paul added that he wasn’t the only person impressed with his match that night. Paul said that once he got backstage he was greeted by Vince McMahon who told him his future lay with the sports entertainment giant.
“And everyone backstage lights up, because you know in the WWE Universe, boos are fantastic. Boos are great, cheers are great. Silence is bad,” said Paul. “And I ignite, like lit this crowd up, and I get backstage and I go to Vince McMahon and he says something to me like, ‘Oh, your future is here.’ And I think we all kind of realized at the same time I could do this, I like it, and I’m good at it.”
Did Logan Paul Win At WWE SummerSlam
Logan Paul was most recently in action at SummerSlam where he took on and defeated Ricochet with a little help from a friend. The win was his first since defeating The Miz at the same event a year earlier.
Since trying his hand in the ring, the star has impressed fans and former wrestlers alike. In the build-up to his match with Ricochet, Ric Flair claimed Logan Paul was better than 70% of the entire roster.
Another rumoured future for Logan Paul could see him teaming up with mega-heel Dominik Mysterio.
McMahon may have seen a bright future in Paul but did not feel the same way about Christopher Daniels when the ROH veteran signed a developmental deal in the late 90s.
