Current AEW announcer Jim Ross has discussed Vince McMahon giving a special car to WWE Hall Of Famer ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper as a WrestleMania gift.
At WrestleMania 12 Roddy Piper returned to The Grandest Stage Of Them All for the first time in four years as he faced off with Goldust in a Hollywood Backlot Brawl.
The iconic bout was filmed cinematically, with WWE returning to the battle throughout the night after Goldust took off in a gold car. Chasing him was Piper in a white Ford Bronco, a car that had been the subject of some attention in the preceding months.
The car was used by OJ Simpson during his unusual police chase as attempted to evade arrest for the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. Footage of the chase was shown during WrestleMania with announcer Vince McMahon telling fans that they were watching Piper trying to chase down Goldust.
Speaking on Grilling JR [available early and ad-free at AdFreeShows.com] Jim Ross explained what happened to the white Bronco that was used at WrestleMania and says Vince McMahon gave it to Piper as a gift:
“I go to Vince earlier in the day, ‘Hey, Roddy would like to buy that white Bronco and he wants to drive it home to Oregon.’ Vince said ‘No, I’m not gonna sell it to him. I’ll give it to him. Go tell him it’s a gift.’ So that’s what I did, and it made Roddy very happy. He got a free Bronco out of it and drove it to Oregon.”
That match would be Roddy Piper’s last bout at WrestleMania until he returned to the event thirteen years later to team with Jimmy Snuka and Ricky Steamboat to face Chris Jericho.
