WWE Chairman Vince McMahon was among those surprisingly absent from Raw on Monday night that emanated from Detroit according to reports.
The final Raw before the Day 1 event on New Year’s Day 2022 featured the final of the RK-Bro-Nament as The Street Profits defeated Rey and Dominik Mysterio to become the number one contenders to the Raw Tag Team Championship.
Elsewhere, WWE United States Champion Damian Priest successfully defended his title against Dolph Ziggler while Kevin Owens and AJ Styles both won their respective singles matches. Randy Orton and Riddle were both in singles action as they individually saw off the challenges of Alpha Academy members, Otis and Chad Gable.
The show also saw The Miz and Maryse attempt to renew their wedding vows with the aid of apparent wedding officiant extraordinaire Eric Bischoff. The happy couple should have realised in less than three minutes that things would go awry and they did when Edge covered the trio with a spectacular ‘Brood Bath.’
While many fans packed the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit for the show, PWInsider.com has reported that several WWE executives were unusually absent from the event including:
- WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon
- Senior Vice President & Executive Director Bruce Prichard
- Executive Producer & Chief of Global Television Distribution Kevin Dunn
- Producer, on-air talent & Director of Live Events Adam Pearce
- Senior Producer, Hall of Famer & Vice President of Creative Writing & Booking Michael “PS” Hayes
John Laurinaitis and WWE lead writer Ed Koskey are reported to have been in charge of the show.
There is no word if the absences have anything to do with the ongoing COVID-19 situation that saw several big names miss the company’s traditional Boxing Day live event in Madison Square Garden.
