Former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon seemingly took exception to John Laurinaitis firing a WWE Superstar who is now signed to a Legends contract.
Back in the mid-2000s, The Boogeyman was one of the most unique characters to grace a WWE ring. Wearing red facepaint and carrying an oversized clock, the star would creep around the ring and eat handfuls of worms during matches.
While Vince McMahon was a fan of the bizarre star, it seems that John Laurinaitis just didn’t see it and decided to fire him without McMahon’s knowledge.
Speaking on his ‘Cafe de Rene’ podcast., former WWE Superstar Rene Dupree recalled that McMahon not only rehired The Boogeyman only hours later but gave him a raise as well.
“Vince loved Boogey because of his body. Boogey is a crazy bodybuilder guy, but Johnny hated him because he didn’t know how to wrestle. He always had it out for Boogey.
“So, Johnny thought he had enough power to be able to fire Boogey. It was like nine o’clock in the morning. As soon as Vince found out that Boogey was fired, at three o’clock in the afternoon he got his job back with a raise.”
The Boogeyman debuted in WWE in 2005 and during this time there he had notable feuds with the likes of Finlay and Booker T which included a win over the multi-time World Champion at WrestleMania 22.
He was released from his contract in March 2009 but has made several appearances since then including entering the 2015 Royal Rumble match.
