Vince McMahon made another television appearance when he surprised the Raw audience and named who he believes is the greatest WWE Superstar of all time!
It’s been a whirlwind week for Vince McMahon after news broke on June 15th that he is being investigated by the WWE Board of Directors for allegedly paying $3 million to a former employee with whom he had an affair. It was also noted that that the board’s investigation has also unearthed older non-disclosure agreements that surround claims of misconduct made by other former female WWE employees that involve both Vince McMahon and WWE’s Head of Talent Relations, John Laurinaitis.
On June 17th, he officially stepped down from his duties as WWE CEO and is being replaced in the interim by his daughter Stephanie McMahon. It was noted that he would be continuing his creative duties during this time.
However, the now-former WWE Chairman hasn’t shied away from public appearances during the investigation, and hours after it was confirmed that he would be stepping down as CEO, WWE’s social media announced that he would be making an appearance on that night’s SmackDown.
Entering to a huge ovation, Vince McMahon opened the show appearing confident and smiling all of the way. Microphone in hand he explained that it was always a privilege to stand before the fans, especially in Minnesota before referencing WWE’s “Then, Now Forever” video package. McMahon said that the most important part of the clip was the word together, before welcoming everyone to SmackDown.
However, it seems that Vince McMahon wasn’t content to simply appear on SmackDown, and he also made an unadvertised appearance on the most recent episode of Monday Night Raw. This time, he addressed the Lincoln, NE crowd and hyped up the return of John Cena next week in Laredo, TX, twenty years to the day that Cena debuted on SmackDown in 2002.
“Tonight marks the 1,517th edition of Monday Night Raw, which continues to make it the longest running episodic television show in history. And for that I say thank you!
“Raw has been on the air for almost 30 years. 20 of those 30 years has been dominated by the greatest WWE Superstar of all time. That man makes his return to Raw live here next week. I made reference to no less than Mr. Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect, John Cena!”
