Vince McMahon Paid Off Local Police During Attitude Era

Vince McMahon with money in WWE

WWE Hall of Famer Sean Waltman told a story of how Vince McMahon paid off local police.

During the Monday Night Wars between WWE and WCW in the late 90s, the rebellious group D-Generation X went to extreme lengths to help WWE defeat their rival. In a recent interview on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Sean Waltman, also known as X-Pac, shed light on the lawsuit faced by WWE and the intervention of Vince McMahon, saving them from potential trouble.

Waltman revealed that WWE was hit with a lawsuit for DX’s antics during the Monday Night Wars. However, thanks to Vince McMahon’s willingness to break out his wallet, the company managed to avoid significant consequences.

Recalling incidents from April and May 1998, Waltman shared that DX made legitimate visits to WCW’s TV tapings and live events. On April 27th, during separate events held 19 miles apart in Hampton, Virginia, DX travelled from the WWE venue to the WCW venue, shouting insults at WCW’s bosses and accusing Ted Turner’s company of giving away free tickets to fill up arenas for television. They even attempted to enter the arena through the loading dock in their army jeep but were stopped by security personnel at the door.

Waltman revealed that when DX ran into trouble with the law, McMahon had already paid off the local police. Despite having to go to the station, DX were allowed to stay in their van. Waltman said:

We didn’t get handcuffed … I mean, we had to go to the station, but they let us stay in our van. When we went to the WCW offices, not the CNN tower, Vince had already paid off the local police. They were with us. We had to go out and technically get booked … but [it was already taken care of].

Following the recent success of NXT in the ratings, Shawn Michaels revealed that it was McMahon who gave the order to target a younger demographic.

Has Vince McMahon Faced Recent Legal Issues?

Vice McMahon is no stranger to legal issues, recently he was served a Federal Grand Jury subpoena. However, no charges were brought about following the action. McMahon also faced charges from former employee Britney Abrahams over allegedly offensively racist scripts but these charges were later dropped by Abrahams.
