Despite a belief among some fans that Vince McMahon is still “pulling the strings” backstage, a new report has shot down such speculation.
Ever since Vince McMahon announced his retirement there have been rumours that he has, and will be, heavily involved backstage. After all, when he originally stepped down from his roles as CEO and Chairman, he retained control over creative.
There is also a train of thought which suggests that after spending four decades in absolute control of WWE, and stepping in such a rushed manor, McMahon will inevitably still be involved.
This speculation only gained even more momentum when in a recent interview, Bobby Lashley claimed that McMahon “will still be there” despite his retirement.
However, a new report from Fightful Select has appeared to squash such rumours. The report states that “several higher ups” from WWE reiterated over SummerSlam weekend that Vince McMahon is no longer involved. One went as far as to say that SummerSlam and the subsequent edition of Raw wouldn’t have looked like they did if McMahon still has at least some control.
“If Vince McMahon was still involved to any degree, neither Summerslam or WWE Raw would have resembled what they looked like. Dakota would not have been brought back, Raw would have been several Summerslam rematches,”
The report adds that the former Chairman has no say in the day-to-day running of creative. There has also been speculation that McMahon has limited access to WWE facilities, but this remains unconfirmed.
Surrounded by a whirlwind of allegations relating to sexual misconduct, Vince McMahon retired from his position as Chairman and CEO of WWE on July 22nd.
In his place Triple H has become Head of Creative while Stephanie McMahon is now Chairwoman and co-CEO alongside Nick Khan.
