Vince McMahon Laughed After Being Told Fans Hated Planned WrestleMania Match

While WWE prides itself on being a company that listens to fans, Vince McMahon was known to go against the fanbase if he wanted to see a particular storyline play out.

Heading into WrestleMania 35, Kurt Angle announced that he would be retiring at the spectacular. Angle was and remains beloved by fans for his in-ring performances and hilarious backstage skits. This meant that when his retirement was confirmed, fans hoped that his final match would be something to remember, and against a star of equal stature.

Angle himself has since revealed that he hoped he would get to face John Cena.

However, come the big night, Angle retired after losing out to Baron Corbin. Fans were heavily critical of WWE when the match was announced, and that criticism continued well beyond the show.

Writing on Twitter, former WWE writer Dave Schilling noted that Vince McMahon was aware that fans hated the idea of the match, but simply laughed after it was brought up.

“Oh no it’s Kurt Angle Vs Baron Corbin. When it was mentioned in a production meeting that the fans hated the idea of this match, Vince laughed so hard and said “f*ck em.”

Vince McMahon’s Recent WWE Return Could Be Part Of A Bigger Plan

Vince McMahon made his first appearance backstage at a TV taping since returning to WWE on March 6th. While it’s believed that he was there to see John Cena, a new report has hinted that there could have been more to it. The report from Sports Illustrated noted that while McMahon stayed out of the way, he was likely laying the groundwork for further involvement in the future.
