Back in July, the landscape of WWE changed drastically when Vince McMahon announced his retirement from both creative operations and his position on the company’s Board of Directors. The retirement came amidst an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct and hush money payments.
In the wake of his retirement, Stephanie McMahon was named co-CEO of the company alongside Nick Khan while Triple H now serves as Chief Content Officer. When reports emerged in December that the disgraced former Chairman might be eyeing a return, even his allies in WWE saw this as an unwelcome move.
Despite this, the Wall Street Journal broke the news today that Vince McMahon does indeed intend to return to WWE and plans to sell the company. McMahon himself issued a statement about his decision to elect himself back to the WWE Board of Directors alongside former co-presidents Michelle Wilson and George Barrios, something he is able to accomplish as he remains the majority shareholder in the company despite his retirement.
The announcement sent shockwaves throughout WWE, and according to one report, those within the company were not informed about Vince McMahon’s return prior to the Wall Street Journal report. Talent have expressed serious concerns about the possibility of McMahon returning to creative duties.
Declan McMahon Believes Vince McMahon Returning To WWE Is A Win
While the news of Vince McMahon returning to WWE hasn’t been well-received by either talent or those employed backstage, one person who sees the news as a positive thing is his own grandson Declan McMahon.
As the son of Shane McMahon, Declan is no stranger to the world of professional wrestling, and even made an entrance at WrestleMania 32 alongside his father and brothers ahead of Shane’s Hell in a Cell match against The Undertaker. In response to a Bleacher Report Instagram post about his grandfather’s WWE return, Declan (username dmcmahon__) wrote the following, indicating that he sees the move as a win:
“Tbh W”
Fellow commenters don’t seem to share Declan McMahon’s optimism, calling him out for his opinion and claiming that his uncle Triple H is doing a better job of running the company. At this time, Declan has not responded to any of his detractors.
