A WWE Hall of Famer has recalled Vince McMahon making the decision to prevent him doing moves to Stephanie McMahon during a high-profile match.
Back in 2000, one of the biggest storylines heading into Unforgiven was the love triangle between Stephanie McMahon, Triple H, and Kurt Angle.
Angle had been attempting to undermine McMahon and Triple H’s marriage over the previous weeks, including by showing Stephanie a video of The Game hugging his ex-girlfriend, Chyna. The escalating tensions led to a match between the pair at that Year’s Unforgiven with Stephanie McMahon in her husband’s corner.
Speaking on the most recent edition of his podcast, The Kurt Angle Show (available early on AdFreeShows), the WWE Hall of Famer recalled that the current WWE Chairwoman was originally meant to be more involved in the bout, but Vince McMahon nixed several spots which would see her taking more moves.
“You know what’s crazy? We were going to do three more spots where we actually landed on Stephanie again, but Vince was like, ‘This is too much.’ So we had to take three of them out. She was getting her a*s beat [laughs].”
In the end, Triple H defeated Kurt Angle after Stephanie McMahon sided with her husband and hit Angle with a low blow. This was followed by a Pedigree and The King of Kings walking away with the victory and an intact marriage.
