Vince McMahon Agreed To A Former NXT Star’s Main Roster Debut On One Bizarre Condition

Vince McMahon was against a top star making the move from NXT to the main roster until making one left-field change to their presentation

As far as NXT stars arriving on the main roster, debuts don’t get much bigger than Paige — now known as Saraya — winning the Divas Championship the night after WrestleMania 30.

At the time the British star was already the NXT Women’s Champion having become the inaugural champion a year earlier.

Speaking during an appearance on Mark Hoke Show, the now-AEW star reflected on her main roster debut, and McMahon’s unusual request. Saraya said that it was Triple H who was pushing for her to make the jump, but McMahon only agreed on the condition that she wear purple ring gear instead of the black she wore in NXT.

“It was Triple H who was the one like pitching for me to go on the main roster and Vince (McMahon) was like, ‘Fine! But she has to wear purple’ and that was it.

So I had to get my purple wrestling gear and I slowly transitioned back into the black again eventually and he didn’t notice again.”

Vince McMahon Took A Step Back When Booking WrestleMania Classic

While McMahon was involved in the details of Saraya’s big moment, he took a much more hands-off approach when it came to one famous WrestleMania bout. Kurt Angle recently revealed that the Executive Chairman let him and Shawn Michaels decide who won the acclaimed match at WrestleMania 21.
