Velveteen Dream Reportedly Released By WWE

By James Holder. Published 20th May 2021.
Velveteen Dream

Velveteen Dream has reportedly been released by WWE.

The news was initially reported by PWInsider and has since been confirmed by Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp. Sapp also notes that the star is subject to a 30-day non compete clause.

Velveteen Dream hadn’t appeared on NXT since being defeated by Adam Cole last December.

Over the course of the last 12 months, the now former WWE Superstar had been the subject of allegations surrounding the ‘Speaking Out’ movement.

The news comes after NXT referee Drake Wuertz was among eight names released by WWE on May 19th.

Writing on Twitter, Sean Ross Sapp from Fightful noted that “Word among talent and staff at the WWE Performance Center is that referee Drake Wuertz has been let go.” This report has since been backed up by John Pollock of POST Wrestling who adds that there have also been other cuts. Sapp later added that NXT referee Jake Clemons has also left the company before reports started to filter through of wrestlers also being released.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful has reported that the following names have also been released from their WWE NXT contract with corroboration from PWInsider.

  • Alexander Wolfe
  • Kavita Devi
  • Jessamyn Duke
  • Vanessa Borne
  • EJ Nduku
