An interim WWE World Champion could be on their way to Monday nights to compensate for Roman Reigns’ part-time status if USA Network gets their way.
With Roman Reigns having held both the WWE and Universal Championships since WrestleMania 38, it has left Monday Night Raw without a top championship. Reigns is a SmackDown-contracted performer but even then, he’s now restricting his appearances.
The USA Network is reportedly unsatisfied with this, and has even pitched for an interim World Champion to be placed on Monday nights in lieu of Roman Reigns’ somewhat part-time status.
This comes via Fightful Select, who reported following the return of Karrion Kross and Scarlett to WWE that an interim championship was wanted by network executives. There’s currently no word as of yet whether this has been discussed internally within WWE.
The lack of a top champion has been a common issue in WWE ever since Brock Lesnar returned to the company in April 2012. Alongside Goldberg, ‘The Beast Incarnate’ rarely appeared, let alone wrestled, during his seven reigns.
Going down the path of an interim World Champion is something All Elite Wrestling was forced into following an injury to newly-crowned champion CM Punk. Jon Moxley became the intermittent champion, with a title unification bout expected when Punk is medically healthy to do so.
