An update on the WWE status of Aleister Black has reportedly been revealed.
The former NXT Champion hasn’t appeared on WWE television since October 2020. However, that could be about to change.
According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, WWE have this week been filming promos for Black’s return. The report notes that the vignettes are “loosely based on Black’s childhood.” Although Johnson adds that there is currently no word on when the vignettes will begin to air, “one would think that it would be fairly soon.”
This initial report has since been corroborated by Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer. Meltzer has described the story as “accurate.”
“PWInsider reported that WWE has been filming promos building to the return of Aleister Black. We have confirmed the story as accurate.”
Aleister Black initially signed for WWE back in 2016. The Dutch star went on to enjoy a highly successful run in NXT, winning the NXT Championship along with the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic with Ricochet.
Black debuted RAW in February of 2019, but has endured something of a stop-start existence on the main roster. Black’s last match on RAW was a defeat against Kevin Owens on October 12th.
It was recently reported that Aleister Black had been spotted at the WWE Performance Center, apparently preparing for a return to action.
This comes of the back of an earlier report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, which noted that Black was dealing with “some minor injuries.” The report went to add that the injuries were not the main reason behind Black’s inactivity, which is more likely down to not being one of “Vince’s favourites.”
