At WWE Money In The Bank, the intense rivalry between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre took another heated turn.
At the PLE, the Scottish Warrior captured the men’s MITB briefcase in the opening match of the night. Later on in the show during the World Heavyweight Championship match between Damian Priest and Seth Rollins, he attempted to cash in but was thwarted by his enemy in a spectacular attack.
The two warring Superstars have been at each other’s throats for months and have repeatedly gone out of their way to ruin the life of the other. Their deep hatred for and vicious assaults upon one another are undoubtedly leading to a highly anticipated match up but when that clash happens is yet to be confirmed.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez addressed the rivalry and when their match could go down.
“Right now, it is not 100 percent as far as Punk and Drew at SummerSlam, but I was told it is probable,” Meltzer said. “Punk was kind of asked about it and he kind of beat around the bush and he kind of said, I mean, it’s probably happening but he kind of did say it’s up to other people, he has to get cleared and everything by the doctors.”
“I was pretty much told they’re pretty confident in it but you can’t go and say 100 percent because it ain’t 100 percent. It’s been the hope, but it’s now more than a hope, now it’s a plan, Drew McIntyre and Punk for SummerSlam.” h/t Wrestling Obsever Figure Four Online
WHEN WILL CM PUNK RETURN TO ACTION?
Punk is currently recovering from injury after he tore his right tricep at the Royal Rumble and has been out of action ever since.
He has become more physical recently and was asked about his recovery during the post-show press conference however he did not confirm when he will be back.
“I like to keep people in suspense I will say that I feel great and I’m ready to go, and there are things in place to protect me against myself that I maybe wish were in place ten years ago, but we don’t need to talk about the past.
I’m busting my ass to get back. If I could steal what John was talking about, for the fans. Because whether you think he’s more or less polarizing than me, whether you hate me or love me, I’m coming back to enjoy all these moments that were robbed from me when I got injured.
Shit happens, it’s a contact sport. It stinks but I’ve been working very, very hard to rush the rehab and come back. And everybody behind me has supported it, but they’ve also been like, ‘We’re not in a hurry.’ And I love that.”
