Update On Stephanie McMahon’s WWE Hiatus

Stephanie McMahon

A new report has offered a fresh backstage update on Stephanie McMahon’s recently announced hiatus from WWE.

On May 19th Stephanie McMahon announced that she is taking a leave of absence from WWE. In a short statement posted on social media, McMahon said that she would be stepping away from “the majority” of her responsibilities with the company.

“As of tomorrow, I am taking a leave of absence from the majority of my responsibilities at WWE. WWE is a lifelong legacy for me and I look forward to returning to the company that I love after taking this time to focus on my family.”

Following the announcement from WWE’s Chief Brand Officer, it was revealed that WWE President Nick Khan would be taking over many of McMahon’s duties in her absence.

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer has now offered a further update on the situation.

Meltzer noted that the move was “100% her decision” and that it had been in works for some time. However, most talent and many in the office were unaware that McMahon would be stepping back until she posted on social media. McMahon retains a 2.5% share in the company and remains the only original McMahon family member, aside from Chairman Vince, on the Board of Directors.

While it remains unclear as to how long Stephanie will be away, she will be returning.

The report adds that while her husband, Triple H (Paul Levesque) was away from the company following his “cardiac event,” Stephanie McMahon assumed many of his responsibilities. In a further note, Triple H is now back in the office full-time.

Interestingly, WWE has also recently added Ignace Lahoud to their Board of Directors. Lahoud has previously worked as Executive Vice President with the Walt Disney Company, and Chief Financial Officer for MRC.
