A new report has offered an insight into reason behind the match between Logan Paul and Roman Reigns at Crown Jewel.
After Roman Reigns appeared on his Impaulsive podcast, Logan Paul boldly declared that he would be able to dethrone the Tribal Chief.
This led to an appearance by the YouTube on Friday Night SmackDown where he laid down a challenge to Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. On the night, Paul was interrupted by a returning Paul Heyman before escaping from The Bloodline.
The following day in Las Vegas a press conference was held to make the match between the pair official. Not only will the two stars meet at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia on November 5th, Reigns’ World Championship will also be on the line.
During an appearance on Sunday Night’s Main Event on TSN, Dave Meltzer said that the match has only been set up because Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud is a fan of Logan Paul.
“He’s a big deal in Saudi Arabia,” Meltzer said. “He’s a big deal to the Saudi Arabian prince and that’s the whole thing of these shows.”
Meltzer went on to dismiss the notion that the booking had anything to do with selling tickets.
“Nothing to do with that. Tickets in Saudi Arabia mean nothing. It’s not even part of the game. Of course, TV numbers whatever. If he draws younger viewers, that’s good but it’s not a play for TV ratings. It is a play because the prince wants celebrity fights in Saudi Arabia to build the name in the media of Saudi Arabia and Logan Paul will get more of the type of press that Saudi Arabia is looking for than Kevin Owens or Seth Rollins.
That’s what Saudi Arabia is there for. Saudi Arabia is for matches that the prince wants that will get press attention around the world for Saudi Arabia so this is a great match for that.”
At time of writing the match between Logan Paul and Roman Reigns is the only bout to be announced for the show.
