According to a new report, the Forbidden Door is set to be kicked down once again as AEW stars will be involved at New Japan’s Wrestle Kingdom shows.
Back in June, after months of teasing AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling finally came together to co-produce the momentous Forbidden Door show. The best of AEW squared off with the best of NJPW, with Hiroshi Tanahashi fighting Jon Moxley in the main event to crown an Interim AEW World Champion in CM Punk’s absence.
Since then, fans of both companies have been wondering when the next interaction between the rosters could take place, and that now seems to have been answered.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed that there will be AEW involvement on NJPW’s biggest shows of the year:
“Yes, I don’t know how many but I have in fact been told of certain plans for AEW wrestlers on Wrestle Kingdom. […] There are plans for certain AEW guys to be at the Tokyo Dome shows, yes.”
While AEW World Champion Chris Jericho competed at Wrestle Kingdom in 2020, defeating Tanahashi. It remains to be seen which AEW stars will be on the shows held on January 4th and 5th in the Tokyo Dome.
New Japan Pro Wrestling has also announced a return to the UK in October as they present Royal Quest II.
