Following recent claims that MJF is seriously considering signing with WWE once his AEW deal expires in 2024, a new report has shed some light on the star’s current status.
Back in March, it was reported that contract discussions between MJF and AEW had left both parties frustrated, with many believing the star isn’t as close to re-signing with AEW as originally thought. It’s said that MJF is currently leaning towards leaving AEW when his contract expires in 2024. The star has also been open in the past about jumping ship from AEW to WWE if the offer was right.
Now, Fightful Select has provided an update on the current situation. They report that AEW has “made overtures” to begin contract talks with the Salt Of The Earth since the initial discussions, but he hasn’t yet responded to these.
They also note that, while neither MJF nor Tony Khan would generally discuss contract talks openly, one source is of the belief that Khan is open to raising Friedman’s pay to a level “comparable to other top stars”.
While several AEW wrestlers have reworked their contracts in the past, this normally comes with added time. It has been denied that MJF is seeking to rework his deal for more money while not having to extend its duration, as Fightful was told “contracts don’t work like that”.
MJF has long been seen as one of the top future prospects in the wrestling business. The 26-year-old loudmouth from Long Island has picked up statement wins during his time in AEW over the likes of Cody Rhodes, Chris Jericho, and CM Punk.
